A beautiful traditional Japanese Buddhist book cover, made from richly woven brocade in deep blue, russet and gold.
The exterior features auspicious cloud motifs, traditional crests and Buddhist inscriptions, surrounded by an ornate scrolling border. The interior is covered with blue and gold cloud-pattern brocade.
The cover is constructed with two stiffened panels and interior pockets designed to hold the front and back covers of a separate kyōhon (経本), or Buddhist scripture/liturgical book. A flexible fabric spine allows it to accommodate the thickness of the book.
