This traditional comb is made of fine, natural Tsuge wood and has a removable handle. It measures 5.3cm X 9.8cm or about 4″ long and was made in the Isumi district of Osaka, famous for generations of fine, hand-made Izumigushi combs.
A ‘Sukigushi’ is is a special double comb used to clean hair and Japanese wigs without the need to undo the hairstyle. The tines are very fine and may be used with or without a piece of Ketabo (also sold in our shop) set in the tines to pick up dust or other particles from the hair… These are widly used by Kyoto’s Geisha and Maiko as their hairstyles are elaborate and difficult and expensive to undo and redo… It will also clean and groom normal hair. Exact wood grain and exact color of the wood may vary. It comes in a gift box.
It has been treated with a coating of the finest 100% Tsubaki Camellia oil (sold in our shop) to protect it and bring out its luster. Note that it should never be washed or used with wet hair!
