This type of Japanese comb has a long pointed handle which is used when shaping the sides of the hair in traditional Nihongami hairstyles. Made of natural Tsuge wood, it is saturated with 100% ‘Tsubaki’ Camellia Oil. It measures 7″ or 17.5cm long. It includes a chirimen fabric case in a beautiful floral design. This comes from the famous ‘Kintakedo’ shop in Gion which has over 100 years of history supplying the Maiko and Geiko of the Gion Geisha district. Tsubaki oil is wonderful for your hair and has been used by women in Japan for thousands of years to keep their hair lustrous and healthy.
Note that the case may not be the exact one shown as although they are all lovely: each one is different!
Never wash this comb as getting it wet could cause the wood to warp – just wipe it clean from time to time and renew the oil and it will last for many years. Use only the finest Hontoh Tsubaki’ oil.
