Item Description:

A beautifully understated Japanese noren featuring ivory waves enclosed within a circular medallion on finely textured blue-grey fabric. Made in Kyoto from a natural blend of jute and linen, it brings movement, tranquillity and timeless Japanese design to the home.

Maru ni Nami — Waves in a Circle

This elegant Japanese noren presents a richly detailed pattern of rolling waves contained within a single circular form.

Known as Maru ni Nami (丸に波), meaning “Waves in a Circle,” the design combines the energetic movement of the sea with the quiet balance of a circle. Flowing lines, curling crests and scattered foam create a sense of continuous motion, while the circular boundary gives the composition harmony and visual calm.

The ivory wave pattern stands in gentle contrast against the muted blue-grey ground. Its restrained palette and graphic simplicity recall the character of traditional Japanese textiles and woodblock prints while remaining equally suited to a contemporary interior.

The circular design is divided precisely between the noren’s two panels. It appears complete when the curtain hangs at rest and gently separates as someone passes through, giving the image a subtle sense of movement.

Woven from a natural blend of jute and linen, the fabric has an organic texture and soft translucence. Light filters through the weave, allowing hints of the space behind the curtain to remain visible and creating subtle changes in colour throughout the day.

Display it in a doorway, use it as a room divider or hang it as a large piece of Japanese textile art. Its timeless design makes it suitable for year-round use.
