Product Description

An elegant Kyoto-made linen tapestry depicting white plum blossoms and deep crimson camellias against a richly textured, folding-screen-inspired ground. Created through an exceptionally detailed multi-stencil dyeing process, it captures the transition from winter into spring.

This refined Japanese tapestry brings together two of Japan’s most admired seasonal flowers: the camellia and the plum blossom.

Camellias bloom with quiet strength during the winter months, while the first plum blossoms herald the approaching spring. The contrast between the deep crimson camellias and delicate white plum flowers creates a vivid expression of the seasons meeting and changing.

The richly layered composition was created using numerous individual stencils. Each colour is applied separately, and the stencils must be aligned with exceptional precision. Even the subtle gradations of the ink-like branches and trunk are carefully reproduced through stencil dyeing.

Its softly mottled olive-gold ground recalls the dignified surface of a traditional Japanese folding screen. Against it, the dark sweeping branches and vividly coloured flowers create depth and movement reminiscent of a classical Japanese painting.

Made in Kyoto by Manyōsha, this tall, narrow linen tapestry brings seasonal beauty and a quietly luxurious presence to an entrance, alcove, living room or contemporary interior.
