These are the 2 most essential items required for creating the authentic Shiro-Nuri (Doran) white makeup as used by Geiko and Kabuki Actors. They must be used together as the wax creates the base for the white makeup to go on properly.
The 2 items are:
Kabuki Abura: 32g, wax (melted in the hands and rubbed on)
Kabuki Oshiro: 150g, paste (diluted in water and painted on)
To used this set, take a small piece of the wax and melt it by rubbing it between your hands and spreading it all over your face. Next, dilute the white paste with water in a dish and spread on with a broad brush, finishing by smoothing it out evenly with with a damp sponge.
Normally ‘Kona Oshiroi’ Face Powder is then used over over this and is recommended for authenticity and you may wish to use ‘Taihaku’ or ‘Ishineri’ wax to flatten out your real eyebrows prior to applying this.
These items are made by the famous Mitsuyoshi Company which has a long history of supplying makeup to the Maiko and Geiko of Gion and to Kabuki Actors from the Minamiza.
