Vintage 1977 Japanese Chrysanthemum Clutch Handbag – Unused

A beautifully preserved vintage Japanese handbag dating from 1977, featuring a wonderfully elegant chrysanthemum design in warm rust, ochre, brown and cream tones.

The textured, silk-like fabric is framed with handsome marbled faux-tortoiseshell trim, giving the bag a distinctly sophisticated 1970s Japanese appearance. A slim black carrying strap can be used as a handle or folded completely inside, allowing the bag to be carried as a traditional clutch.

The interior is fully lined in dark fabric and includes two useful internal pockets.

What makes this example especially remarkable is its condition. It appears to have never been used and is flawlessly preserved — it genuinely looks as though it were made yesterday. When found, the bag still contained its old Japanese newspaper stuffing dating from 1977, providing a wonderful indication of its age and long-term storage.

Elegant enough for kimono and kitsuke, but the design works equally well as a distinctive vintage evening or occasion bag with Western clothing.
