A beautiful vintage Japanese kinchaku drawstring bag, combining a traditional woven bamboo takekago (竹籠) basket base with richly coloured woven fabric.
The upper portion is made from a substantial, heavily textured fabric with a bold floral and foliage design in warm orange, golden yellow and green. A dark-stained woven bamboo basket forms the structured base, creating the classic takekago kinchaku style.
The bag closes with thick braided red cords and is finished inside with a smooth red satin-like lining.
The wonderfully strong colours and slightly retro character of the textile give this bag a distinctly autumnal feeling. It would work beautifully with kimono or yukata, but is equally appealing simply as an unusual vintage Japanese handbag.
It is pre-owned and in excellent condition, with no notable damage or staining.
