DESCRIPTION:
This distinctive vintage Japanese kinchaku handbag is made from a substantial, silk-like woven fabric featuring a traditional enmon—or circular medallion—design in rich shades of red, green, black and silver-grey.
The structured bamboo frame is complemented by vivid red double-cord handles and a small bamboo toggle closure. The fabric gathers neatly along the frame, creating the characteristic shape of a traditional Japanese kinchaku while providing considerably more room than its compact appearance might suggest.
The interior is lined in pink fabric and includes a separate slip pocket originally intended for a small handbag mirror. No mirror is included.
Although designed to complement kimono, this unusual bag also works beautifully with contemporary clothing, adding colour, texture and an unmistakably Japanese accent.
CONDITION:
It is in excellent vintage condition and appears to have been used only lightly, if at all. The fabric, lining, cords and bamboo fittings are all in very good condition, with no significant stains, holes or other issues. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.
