Item Description:

A striking Kyoto-made linen noren featuring a luminous white camellia against a rich crimson ground. Hand-dyed without stencils, the design celebrates the camellia as a symbol of vitality, beauty and longevity.

A luminous white camellia blooms dramatically across rich crimson linen in this expressive Japanese noren.

In Japan, the camellia—or tsubaki—has long symbolized vitality and longevity. It also holds a special place in the world of the Japanese tea ceremony, where its quiet strength and graceful beauty have been admired for centuries.

This bold composition is created using an oboro-zome hand-dyeing technique. Rather than relying on a stencil, the artisan applies dye directly to the linen with a brush in confident, sweeping movements. The softly diffused edges, subtle gradations and variations in colour reveal the skill and individual touch of the dyer.

Made in Kyoto by Manyōsha, this two-panel noren brings warmth and dramatic colour to traditional and contemporary interiors alike. Display it in a doorway, use it as a room divider or hang it as a large textile artwork.

The hanging rod shown in the photograph is not included.
