Set of Two Hinomaru & Gold Wave Design Sake Cups
These elegant and extremely rare cups we made by the renown ceramic artist Nakayama Yasuo. They were intended for festive or formal occasions, especially for serving sake at weddings or on New Years.
The are made of fine bone china, hand painted in a Hinomaru & golden wave design and srtamped with the Nakayama Toki seal on the bottom. They are no longer being made and are now displayed in ceramic museums – see “about the artist” below.

About the artist – Nakayama Yasuo:
1922: Born in Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture in the 11th year of the Taisho era.
1941: Graduated from Tajimi Technical School and worked as an engineer at Iwaki Glass.
1944: Drafted for war. After returning from the military, worked for a ceramic raw materials company in Tajimi.
1960: Founded Nakayama Seitosho.
1968: Established Nakayama Seitosho Co., Ltd.
1979: Awarded the Nagoya Bureau of International Trade and Industry Director’s Award.
1985: Established Nakayama Co., Ltd. and won the Gifu Prefectural Governor’s Award.
1987: Developed stemware and won the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency Commissioner’s Award.
1989: Won the Gifu Prefectural Governor’s Award for the second consecutive year.
1990: Delivered coffee cups and saucers to the Imperial Household Agency and won the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Chairman’s Award.
