These stunning Japanese hanging pendant light shades are completely hand made of fine Mino Washi paper using long uniform bamboo strips. Both the high quality paper and bamboo are specialties of Gifu Prefecture’s ancient “chochin” paper lantern craft. The paper in these shades is hand-made utilizing natural materials such as mulberry, hemp fiber and rice pulp and the shades themselves are completely hand constructed. The bamboo frames are cross-wrapped, which is a technically difficult process. These shades are modern arrangements of traditional Japanese lighting in the style of such artists as Isamu Noguchi and Yanagi Sori. Their simple design allows you to coordinate them with the decor and the atmosphere of your room.

They are made by Fores Hayashi Kogei which is a lighting brand from Gifu Prefecture famous for its creative variations of lighting shades in combination with exotic hand made paper. They have won numerous design awards for their creative adaptations of traditional Japanese lighting that can be incorporated into both Japanese and Western-style interiors.
